COMPANION GUIDE

Your field manual for AI teammates

01Getting Started

From zero to your first bot in under a minute

Companions are AI teammates you spawn and command. They follow you, fight for you, gather resources, craft gear, smelt ores, recycle junk, man your cannons, and even pilot your ships. Each companion is a real SentientPlayer bot — not a dumb NPC — with its own name, inventory, stats, and loyalty.

They belong to your team. When you spawn your first companion, a new hive is created called [Your Name]'s Team. All future companions you spawn join this same team automatically.

Your First 60 Seconds

Set up a base with a Tool Cupboard

Build a small base or move inside one. Stand near the TC and type /comp.sethome — this is where your companions will guard when in Home mode.

Spawn your first companion

Type /comp.spawn. A bot materializes in front of you, named automatically, joining your team. You'll hear them announce themselves.

Open the Companion UI

Type /comp or /comp.ui to open the in-game panel. From here you control modes, inventory, storage, and combat stance with buttons instead of commands.

Send them to work

Try /comp.follow to have them trail you into the wild, or /comp.home to send them back to guard the base.

Quick HUD Tip

Your companions' status is always visible in a HUD on your screen. Toggle between graphical cards (V2, default) and compact text (V1) with /hudversion.

Companion Limits

The number of bots you can have depends on your permission tier:

1
Player
Default tier
2
VIP
Purchased perk
3
Elite
Top tier
Unlimited
Admin-granted

02Modes & Behavior

Six modes that define what your bots do right now

Modes control where your bots go and what they do when nothing's happening. You can set a team-wide mode, or set each bot individually through the Companion UI.

🏠Home

Guards the area around your Tool Cupboard. Will defend but not wander far.
Default mode · Range: 50m · Set with /comp.home

📐Stay

Holds position near you within a tether. Defends but won't wander.
Tether: 10–200m · Set with /comp stay

🗺Roam

Patrols around your tether radius. Loose leash — explores while staying in range.
Tether-bound · Set with /comp roam

🌎FreeRoam

Complete freedom. No tether, no leash. Bots wander the whole map.
No tether · Set with /comp free

Passive

Won't attack anyone, even if attacked. Useful for non-combat roles like gathering.
Combat stance · /comp passive

Combat Stances

Independent from movement mode, each bot has a stance that determines how it reacts to threats:

  • Aggressive — Engages any hostile within sight. Default.
  • Passive — Ignores everything. Even takes hits without retaliating. Useful for dedicated gatherer roles.
  • Defensive — Only fights when attacked.

Toggle with /comp passive or /comp aggressive. The Companion UI has a per-bot toggle too.

Tether & Follow Radius

Two distance settings govern how far your bots can stray:

10 – 200m
Tether Radius
For Stay/Roam modes · /comp.tether ±10
5 – 150m
Follow Radius
For Follow mode · /comp.followradius ±10

The /comp.tether and /comp.followradius commands accept a delta (like +10 or -20) rather than an absolute value. Repeat them to dial in your preferred radius.

03Commands Reference

Every chat command at a glance

Commands come in two families. The short /comp.* family is the quickest way to issue orders. The long-form /comp <subcommand> opens up everything else, including the UI.

Command Syntax Key

<required> — you must provide this.   [optional] — skip if you want the default.   Arguments can always be a space-separated phrase.

Basic Bot Management

/comp.spawnBasic
Summon a new companion in front of you. Auto-named and added to your team. Respects your tier's companion limit.
/comp.dismiss [name]Basic
Dismiss one companion (by partial name match) or all of them if no name is given.
/comp.dismiss interstellar
/comp.listBasic
Show all companions with HP, distance from you, and current mode. Also shows your home TC and box count.
/comp.uiBasic
Open the graphical Companion UI panel. Same as typing /comp with no arguments.

Movement & Mode

/comp.homeBasic
Send team to Home mode — guards your TC area.
/comp.followBasic
Set team to Follow mode — trails behind you.
/comp.sethomeBasic
Set the Tool Cupboard you're standing in as your companion home. Re-scans nearby boxes as assigned storage.
/comp.tether [±delta]Basic
Adjust tether radius (Stay/Roam modes). Runs 10–200m. Example: /comp.tether +10 widens by 10m.
/comp.followradius [±delta]Basic
Adjust follow radius (Follow mode). Runs 5–150m.

Storage

/comp.boxesBasic
List every box assigned to your companions with slot usage.
/comp.assignboxBasic
Look at a box and run this to assign or unassign it. Bots will use assigned boxes for storing/retrieving loot.
/comp.tagbox [category]Basic
Look at an assigned box and tag it with a category (Weapons, Ammo, Resources, etc). No arg = cycle to next tag.
/comp.tagbox weapons
/comp.autotag [force]Basic
Scan every assigned box and auto-tag it based on what's inside. Add force to overwrite existing tags.

Naval & Captain

/comp.captain [on|off|toggle]Naval
Activate Captain mode — a bot mounts your ship's wheel as the designated captain and starts reading sailing orders.
/comp.sailNaval
Look at a point on the water, then run this. The captain raises anchor and sails to that point. Requires Captain active.
/comp.anchorNaval
Drop anchor where you are. Ship stays put until you sail again.
/comp.shipfollowNaval
Captain follows a target — either a player or another boat you look at. If you look at nothing, follows you.
/comp.returnhomeNaval
Captain sails back to the position recorded when Captain mode was first activated.
/comp.cleanboatsNaval
Destroy every one of your boats except your selected home ship. Handy for cleanup after piracy.

Long-Form Commands (/comp subcommand)

The /comp command also accepts many subcommands. These are the same ones you'd click in the UI:

/comp bring <item> [amount]Basic
Your companions gather the requested item from both their inventories and your assigned boxes, then deliver it to your inventory. Amount can be a number, all, or half.
/comp bring hqm 500   ·   /comp bring wood all   ·   /comp bring 1000 sulfur
/comp recallBasic
Teleport all companions to your location. Costs karma!
/comp rename <#>Basic
Give a specific companion a new random name.
/comp vehicle [name]Basic
Toggle whether a specific companion (or all of them) can ride vehicles with you.
/comp repairBasic
Companions repair damaged walls/structures in your base.
/comp rebuildBasic
Companions rebuild destroyed parts of your base from your stored materials.
/comp authBasic
Re-authorize all companions on your TC and turrets. Useful after base edits.
/comp furnace statusBasic
Show what's smelting in your assigned furnaces and estimated time remaining.
/comp furnace collectBasic
Pull smelted ingots out of all assigned furnaces into your inventory.
/comp box listBasic
List all boxes assigned to your companions (same as /comp.boxes).
/comp resetBasic
Clear stuck companion data — good for recovering bots that glitched out.
/comp helpBasic
Dump this command list in-game chat.

UI & HUD

/hudversionBasic
Switch between the graphical HUD (V2, cards) and the text HUD (V1, compact). Preference saved to config.
/companionBasic
Alias for /comp — identical behavior.

04Storage & Tags

Teach your bots where each item belongs

When you set a home TC with /comp.sethome, the plugin automatically discovers boxes nearby and assigns them to your team. Your companions will then use these boxes as their communal stash — dropping loot into them, pulling materials when they craft, and sharing resources across the team.

Category Tags

You can tag each box with a category so bots put items where they belong. When a bot wants to stash a rifle, they'll route it to a box tagged Weapons first. When they're out of medical supplies, they'll check a Medical box first. Tagging is optional — untagged boxes still accept any item — but it keeps your base organized.

Workflow

Assign boxes

Either run /comp.sethome (auto-assigns nearby boxes) or look at a box and run /comp.assignbox to toggle it manually.

Let your team fill them up

As bots gather, loot, and craft, boxes start filling with real items.

Auto-tag once

Run /comp.autotag. The plugin scans each box, looks at what's dominantly inside, and assigns the best-fit category. One command, whole base tagged.

Fine-tune if needed

For any box where auto-tag got it wrong, look at it and run /comp.tagbox weapons (or any category) to force-set it. Or /comp.tagbox with no args to cycle.

Empty Boxes Stay Empty

When the plugin finds you've left a box empty, it respects that choice — bots won't dump random loot into it unless it has a matching tag or you manually assign items. Use this to reserve "overflow" boxes for raid prep, trading, etc.

Furnaces, Lockers, Recyclers

Besides boxes, your team also tracks three other container types once you're set up:

  • Furnaces auto-discovered near your home TC — bots fuel them, feed ores in, and collect smelted ingots.
  • Lockers store combat loadouts — bots grab gear from here before heading into fights.
  • Recyclers used by auto-recycle (see next section). Includes your base recycler if any, and monument recyclers on runs.

05Crafting & Auto-Systems

Automate the grind — crafting, smelting, recycling

Your companions can run four automation systems in parallel. Turn them on via the Companion UI's Automation tab. All of them respect your inventory presets (below) and tier restrictions on what they're allowed to craft.

Auto-Craft
Keeps gear topped off from queue
🔥
Auto-Smelt
Ores → ingots in your furnaces
Auto-Recycle
Junk → components
🛡
Auto-Repair
Keeps gear condition high

Craft Queue

Each companion has a craft queue — a list of items they'll craft whenever they have the materials. You can add guns, armor, traps, and consumables to the queue with a target amount. When stock drops below target, they craft more.

Manage the queue in-game through the Companion UI. Priority items craft first. Items you don't have the tier permission for simply won't appear as craftable.

Inventory Presets

Presets are shortcuts that set dozens of inventory caps at once. Pick the one that matches your playstyle:

  • Balanced — 3 rifles, 2 SMGs, 2 each armor piece, 500 rifle ammo. The default.
  • Combat Focus — 5 rifles, 3 of each other class, 1000 rifle ammo. For raiders.
  • Builder Focus — Slimmer gear, enables auto-recycle excess. For base builders.
  • Minimal — Bare-minimum loadout (1 of each weapon type). Saves space.
  • Unlimited — Uncapped. Hoards every weapon and armor piece. Admin/testing preset.

Monument Recycler Runs

When enabled (default on), your companions occasionally run scrap-heavy boxes to nearby monument recyclers when you have too much junk stacking up. Cooldown between runs: 5 minutes.

06Combat & Gear

How bots fight and what they can wield

Companion combat is driven by the same AI that powers enemy hive bots — they aim, take cover, flank, reload, and switch weapons based on range. Their effectiveness depends on three things: what mode they're in, what gear they have, and what tier their owner is.

Tier-Restricted Weapons

Top-tier gear is gated by permission. Companions will not equip a weapon their owner doesn't have permission to unlock, even if it's in the box:

WeaponPlayerVIPElite
Semi-Auto Rifle, MP5 lookalikes, Revolver, etc
AK47, Thompson, Python, Pump Shotgun, SPAS-12
LR-300, M39, L96, MP5A4, M249, Bolt Action

Tier-Restricted Armor

ArmorPlayerVIPElite
Hide, Wood, Hazmat, basic clothing
Coffee Can Helmet, Road Sign set
Metal Facemask/Torso, Heavy Plate, Tactical Gloves

Explosives

ExplosivePlayerVIPElite
Basic grenades
Beancan Grenade, Satchel Charge
C4 (Timed Explosive), Rockets, HV Rockets, Explosive Ammo
Tier Restrictions Are Real

Even if you loot an M249 and hand it to your companion, a Player-tier owner's bot will not equip it. The weapon stays in inventory or gets auto-recycled if enabled. VIP/Elite owners can hand off the restricted gear freely.

08Karma Economy

Why keeping bots loyal costs — and how to earn it back

Your karma with each hive isn't just a score — it's the currency that pays for bot services. Every follow minute, every unstuck teleport, every new hive membership draws from this pool. Drop too low and your bots desert you.

What Everything Costs

−1%
Bot Follow
per minute of Follow mode
−15%
Unstuck TP
per team teleport
+100%
Join Hive
minimum karma needed
−200%
Leave Hive
reputation hit

How to Earn Karma

  • Trade with bots — giving them useful items earns you positive karma.
  • Defend allied hives — killing their enemies (or NPCs threatening them) boosts your standing.
  • Heal or revive — helping bots in combat earns you reputation.
  • Complete hive requests — sometimes hives will broadcast asks in chat for specific items or deeds.

How Fast Does It Drain?

At the default rates, if your karma with your own team is +300%:

  • You can follow-mode for 300 minutes (5 hours) before hitting zero.
  • You can use /comp recall (unstuck TP) 20 times.
  • Or some combination — each cost subtracts independently.
Negative Karma = Bots Desert

Once your per-hive karma drops below a threshold, bots in that hive will no longer follow you, refuse teleport requests, and eventually leave your team entirely. Trade with them, help them in combat, or earn back standing before it gets that low.

Check your current karma standing on your dashboard — the Overview tab shows your standing per hive plus how many follow-minutes and unstucks it'll buy at current rates.

09VIP / Elite Perks

What buying in unlocks

Tiers are granted by permissions. Admins award them, and typically VIP and Elite are available through the VIP Store. Here's what each tier unlocks:

FeaturePLAYERVIPELITE
Max Companions123
Can craft AK47, Thompson, Python, SPAS-12
Can craft LR-300, M39, L96, M249, Bolt
Can equip Road Sign + Coffee Can
Can equip Metal Armor + Heavy Plate
Can craft Beancan Grenade + Satchel
Can craft C4, Rockets, HV Rockets
Inventory Stack Multiplier

The stack multiplier is a big one — an Elite companion can stack 3× the default quantity in each inventory slot. That means 3× more ammo hoarded, 3× more resources per-slot, less time sorting.

10Tips & Tricks

Patterns the experienced players use

Base Design for Companions

  • Wide doorways — 1×1 doorways can trap bots. Use double-wide or tall doorways in key corridors.
  • Boxes near TC — keep all boxes within ~20m of your TC so auto-discovery catches them.
  • Dedicated furnace room — a separate fireproof room with your furnaces lets bots focus there without interfering with other tasks.
  • Cannon line-of-sight — when designing sea bases, leave clear arcs of fire for your cannon gunners.

Getting the Most Out of Follow Mode

  • Before a raid, set your bots to Follow and head to the target. The karma cost (-1%/min) is trivial for the firepower they provide.
  • Adjust /comp.followradius based on terrain. Tight radius (5–20m) in cramped monuments, wide (50+m) on open fields.
  • Use /comp recall if they get stuck — it's -15% karma but saves minutes of pathfinding.

Efficient Crafting

  • Set up your craft queue with targets like "maintain 10 rifles, 1000 rifle ammo, 5 armor sets". Then just gather resources — your companions craft everything as materials arrive.
  • Tag a box Components near your furnaces. Recycled parts accumulate there and feed the queue.
  • Use the Builder Focus preset when raiding scrap — it enables auto-recycle so components build up automatically.

Naval Raiding

  • Sail to a target coast, drop anchor off-shore, then switch your team to Follow mode and swim/boat in. Your captain guards the retreat vessel.
  • Keep cannon gunners on Hold Fire until you spot threats, then switch to Weapons Free. This prevents accidental engagements with allied hives.
  • /comp.returnhome is your panic button — sails the captain back to where you started the session even if you're swimming for your life.

Karma Management

  • Build one "home hive" relationship by trading aggressively with them early. A stockpile of karma there pays for months of follow time.
  • Avoid /comp recall spamming — at -15% each, ten recalls drains 150% karma. Walk your bots to you when possible.
  • Never leave a hive voluntarily unless you have 300%+ karma to absorb the −200% hit without going negative.

Debugging Stuck Bots

  • First try /comp recall — teleports all to you.
  • If a specific bot is glitched, /comp reset clears stuck-state data.
  • If all else fails, /comp.dismiss <name> and spawn a replacement.
